There are many diverse and rewarding roles available within the scaffolding and access sector. Working as part of a close-knit team, skills development, and opportunities to travel make for exciting and challenging opportunities for careers in this industry.

Operations Manager for Teal Scaffold, Dan McGregor is passionate about his role in the sector and the impact it makes. He shares his own career journey, progression opportunities available in the industry and advice for climbing the scaffold to success.

From working at a height to operational roles, career development is something to expect according to Dan.

“The opportunities for progression branch to many different areas of the business, such as management, safety, finance, and technical operations.

There are also opportunities to take your skill set all over the world, bringing value to various industries.” he said.

Teal Scaffold is a leading specialist scaffolding company, operating across Liverpool and the Northwest. Dan is ‘proud’ to work with the company’s diverse client groups which he describes as “challenging and demanding, but also rewarding.”

As Part of The Sovini Group, Teal Scaffold are fully committed to creating opportunities and changing lives, as we build a better future for our customers, communities and colleagues alike – fulfilling our company mission and vision.

“We produce quality work, and our continuous improvement approach is embedded into our team, which brings great value to our clients on a social, safety, and practical level for every project.”

Teal Scaffold have been awarded contracts to work on high-profile heritage works across the region, including the Walker Art Gallery and internal works at the Liverpool Lyceum which required the protection of a priceless chandelier, roof and skylight.

“I thoroughly enjoy our high-profile heritage work and although it can be challenging, through collaboration we make the impossible possible for our client.” said Dan.

Dan is an ethical leader with a drive to help his team, which is what he finds most fulfilling about his role.

“Everyone has their own interpretation of rewarding and for me it’s supporting other members of our team in their career progression.” he said.

Dan’s expertise has provided various opportunities to take the next step up the professional ladder.

“I have completed a post-graduate diploma with Liverpool John Moores University and seek to complete my Masters in 2024. I have also been recognised with a number of prestigious awards including ‘Scaff star’ at the National Scaffolding Conference and internally as The Sovini Group’s Most Influential Colleague.”

If you’re interested in a career in scaffolding, it’s always good to learn the basics, you just have to be willing to step out of your comfort zone, Dan advises.

“There are various avenues into the industry, including apprenticeships or as a Labourer. There is also funding available to assist with your professional growth through the National Access & Scaffolding Confederation (NASC) and Construction Industry Training Board (CITB).

Eager to inspire the next generation of scaffolders to reach the top, Dan believes resilience is key.

“If you want to achieve great things in life you must work hard. Times get tough, we all face adversity in our personal and professional lives, but we must be resilient, and more importantly be willing to learn.”
